The internet is full of opportunities to make money online, however, it is also full of opportunities for people to scam you so they can make money online. So how can you actually make money online?

To make money online you need to first decide why you would like to make an income online. Most of the help pages you discover on this topic actually miss this step, but I believe it is an important one. Now I’m sure you’re thinking to yourself, “Why? I want to make money of course!”

To give you an idea of what I mean, are you:

*Looking for a reasonably fast income to buy something special/fund a holiday

*Looking to supplement your current income a little

*Looking to eventually work completely from home

*Looking for an income, but in no hurry, can afford to invest the time it takes to succeed

*Looking to get rich as fast as possible

Well of course, I’m looking to get rich as fast as possible!

Let me tell you, this is probably not going to happen.

Realistically, any of the other reasons are perfectly viable, as long as you are prepared to put in the effort. The same as in the outside world, it is possible to succeed and make a good income working on the internet, but there is no free ride. It takes hard work, dedication, patience and persistence to make a decent income.

There are many, many ways to make money online.

Here I will give you an overview of each opportunity.

Start a blog

Probably the most common way for people to make money online, anyone can start a free blog and make money off advertising and affiliates. To start a successful blog you need to find a topic you know a lot about and are prepared to write continuously for. A blog needs to be interesting and provide the readers with something they are looking for, if you keep your readers interested, they’ll keep coming back to read more. Paid surveys

Another common way for people to make money off of the internet is paid surveys. This is one that can pay off quite quickly. There are companies out there who are willing to pay consumers for their opinions on products or services, whether it be new products, a way for the company to better market their product or general feedback on an existing product. All this requires is for you to join the survey and marketing companies, submit your profile and sometimes complete an introduction survey. Then just keep checking your email inbox for invitations. These companies may pay you via paypal, cheque, direct bank deposit or they may pay you in points that you accumulate to eventually receive cash, gift cards or gifts from their catalogue. There are also companies that will pay you to try out new products and give them feedback on what you thought of the product.

Freelance writing

If you are a skilled writer you may be able to utilise those skills and become a feeelance writer. To be successful you generally need to be very fluent with English and use correct grammar and punctuation. There are many ways to make money as a writer online, because what do you see on almost every page you see on the net? Text. There are sites where you can get started being a writer by producing informative articles. It doesn’t take much to get started. All you need is an idea and a way to express it. There are a lot of sites that are free to join, you submit your quality article and then the owner of the site splits the profits made by people viewing your article. Money is made by the advertisements or affiliates that are displayed on the page. There are also a lot of websites that connect freelance writers to companies that need specific work done. To do this kind of freelance work you must be a very good writer and be able to follow the guidelines to produce exactly what the company requesting the work wants. This can pay a lot more than article writing, but is generally a once off payment, whereas articles are a residual income that keeps earning you money even while you sleep.

Freelance photographer

The same as people will pay for quality written documents, people will pay for high quality photographs. There are sites that can connect buyers to sellers and take a percentage of every sale. If you are a good photographer and have a high resolution camera people/companies may pay for your photos. You can choose what copyright you retain over them, however this affects the price people are willing to pay for your photos.

Other freelance work

There are other types of freelance work available, depending on the skills you have. This could be building websites, coding games, proofreading, article rewriting, editing photos, performing web searches, making phone calls and many, many more. As with freelance writing and photographing, there is websites that companies can place ads for you to apply for these jobs.
